Quick wins for businesses on social media

Social media for businessThere’s no debating that social media is one of the most powerful tools available to businesses today. Giving your brand the opportunity to reach almost 3 billion people around the world, social media is every business leader’s dream.

This year’s Social Media Week London (#SMWLDN) looks like the place to be for those wanting to expand their social media knowledge. Coming to the UK from the 11th-15th September, attendees can hear from a range of exciting speakers including the likes of Buzzfeed, Facebook, Google and more!

But if you can’t make it to #SMWLDN there’s no need to worry! We’ve put together some quick ways that you can use the power of social media to promote your business.

Follow accounts that engage with you

This is one of the easiest ways to grow your business’ social media following. Whenever you receive a new notification, click on the engaging account’s profile and try to judge whether they’re genuinely interested in your content or just a spam account. If the former, then simply give them a follow in order to prompt a follow back from them! Due to the way that Facebook works, Twitter & Instagram tend to be the most effective platforms to implement this tactic.

Don’t forget about your email signatureBusiness social media

Have you considered using your email signature to increase traffic to your social media pages? Each email you send is an opportunity to increase brand awareness. Including links to each of your main business social media platforms – such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn – can be a great way to boost your social media following.

Or if you’re running a specific campaign on social media, then you could add a link to it in your email signature. Try to include an image or GIF if you can, as this could help attract more click throughs – which takes us on to our next quick win…

Use images, videos, GIFs and emojis (where relevant)

According to research, tweets with images receive 150% more retweets than those without images. The same goes for videos, GIFS and emojis – with the ability to increase engagement, humanise your business and boost conversions.

Saying that, it’s important to only include images, videos, GIFs and emojis where relevant. There’s no point trying to shoehorn images into your content as this could end up turning off your audience.

Download the Buffer Google Chrome Extension

This will be one of the best things that you do today – and it only takes a few minutes to set up… When you download the Buffer extension on Google Chrome, it will appear in the top right-hand corner of your window – like this. From here, if you’re ever reading an article that your audience may find interesting then you can click on the Buffer extension to either share the article instantly or schedule it for the future. This can be a lifesaver and is a really easy way to ensure that your social media profiles never run dry. In our recent blog ‘7 essential Twitter Lists for marketers’, we put together some effective techniques for using this Buffer extension with Twitter Lists.
